Nazareth Puts Focus on Veterans in March Events

ROCHESTER, NY (02/13/2017) (readMedia)-- Nazareth College is hosting three events for student veterans in the month of March that will focus on their success and well being. This will include a networking event on March 8, a seminar on March 15, and a film screening of "Thank You for Your Service" with a panel discussion on March 22.

The Veterans' Networking Event will take place in the Forum of the Shults Center on March 8 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and will include cocktails and snacks, dinner, as well as a guest speaker. Community professionals are invited to join student veterans from Nazareth College and Monroe Community College to build relationships, share experiences, and provide mentorship as the students prepare to join the local workforce. This event is free and open to the Nazareth and Rochester community. Registration can be found on the Nazareth website.

On March 8, student veterans will have the chance to receive advice on using their benefits for a degree. Specifically this seminar will focus on careers in healthcare and social work. The event is free and open to veterans and their spouses and children. It will take place in the Palladoro Welcome Vista of the Arts Center from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m..

Lastly, the College is hosting a film screening of "Thank You for Your Service," an award winning documentary about the failed mental health policies of the U.S. military and the tragic consequences. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with three veteran affairs specialists from the Rochester area. The film will be shown on March 22, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Forum in the Shults Center. Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618. This event is free and open to the public.

Panel discussion members will include Todd Baxter, director of the Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester, Anthony Ziarnowski, Ph.D., director of the Vet Center in Rochester, and Kelly Noyes, member of the community care team at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center.
