Nebraska native named Head Women's Basketball Coach for University of the Southwest

HOBBS, NM (07/28/2011)(readMedia)-- University of the Southwest of Hobbs, NM, recently named Kevin Dobbs, a former Weeping Waters, Neb., resident as head women's basketball coach. 

Dobbs brings extensive experience as a head coach and a record of success to the University of the Southwest. Most recently, he assisted the Women's Basketball program at Frank Phillips College (Borger, TX) until 2010, according to Mike Galvan, Dean of Athletics for University of the Southwest.

"We are excited about the level of experience Coach Dobbs will bring to our program," said Galvan. "We know he's going to continue to build on the success of this program and take it even further."

Prior to that, Dobbs was the Head Women's basketball coach at NCAA II Pfeiffer University in North Carolina for two seasons. He also spent five years at NAIA powerhouse Black Hills State University, where he was the all-time leader in career wins. While at Black Hills State (Spearfish, SD), his teams won or tied for two South Dakota Iowa Conference (SDIC) championships, qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletes (NAIA) tournament twice and was nationally ranked every year.

Dobbs has also served as recruiting coordinator and head assistant women's basketball coach at West Virginia University Tech. In 2006, he took over the women's golf and basketball programs at Peru State College (Peru, Neb.).

Dobbs earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Doane College, Nebraska, and a master's degree in physical education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, where he served as a graduate assistant for men's basketball coach Tom Kropp.
