SAINT PAUL, MN (06/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Bethel University junior Matt Schafer from New Brighton, Minn., walked away from the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships with an All-American title. He was one of six Bethel competitors sent to the event, held at Burns Stadium on the campus of Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif.
Schafer took third place overall with his performance in the 800-meter dash. His time of 1:50.45 in the prelims qualified him for the finals and beat the 29-year-old school record at Bethel University by .01 seconds. In the final heat Schafer delivered a 1:50.61 and was crowned an All-American.
