New Cadillac ATS Takes on World's Most Extreme Roads in Film Series

Automaker's First New Compact Car in Three Decades Is Set for Launch

ANDOVER, MASS. (07/31/2012)(readMedia)-- When it goes on sale at Cadillac dealerships later this summer, the all-new 2013 ATS will be the automaker's first new compact car in more than 30 years. The luxury sport sedan recently went to extremes to make an instant impact in a new film series, "Cadillac ATS vs. the World," which pitted the vehicle against some of the world's most difficult roads. The series debuted in commercials during the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, and longer videos are available for viewing at http://www.youtube.com/user/cadillac.

"Cadillac ATS vs. the World" was directed by Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger and automotive expert and filmmaker Jeff Zwart. Together with champion race driver Derek Hill, they tested the ATS against relentless crosswinds on the remote plains of Patagonia, along a twisting mountainside road in Morocco, through a hand-carved mountain tunnel in China and around the legendary Monaco Grand Prix circuit.

"Watching Derek Hill race through beautiful yet treacherous landscapes at heart-racing speeds is a fitting introduction to the new ATS," said Bill DeLuca III, president of Bill DeLuca's Woodworth Chevrolet Cadillac, an Andover, Mass. Cadillac dealership. "The film series perfectly highlights the sleek design and the high performance of the Cadillac ATS, and Massachusetts viewers will immediately feel confident that the car can take on New England roads without a problem."

The 2013 ATS takes its styling cues from Cadillac's Art & Science design philosophy, which helped relaunch the brand starting with the 2003 Cadillac CTS. Crisp lines, a long wheelbase and short overhangs give the compact Cadillac an aggressive stance. Meanwhile, high-quality interior materials like exotic-wood accents and available leather seats reinforce the luxury appeal of the ATS.

The technology offerings in the Cadillac ATS provide creature comforts no matter how extreme the outside environment. An available Cadillac CUE infotainment system features an eight-inch LCD screen that responds much like a smartphone, so users can intuitively tap, swipe and pinch the controls. Meanwhile, the premium Bose sound systems with Active Noise Cancellation improve the sounds that drivers want while eliminating the noises that they could do without. Other available technologies focus on safety, including Adaptive Forward Lighting, which swivels the HID headlamps toward the car's path, and a Safety Alert Seat that sends pulses to the driver to warn of potential hazards.

Performance in the ATS can be tailored with three available powertrains, including the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which allows the car to be the lightest in its class while generating an ample 202 horsepower. An upgrade to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant delivers 272 horsepower, and, unlike some luxury cars, the unit is available with a manual transmission. Those that need the highest level of performance will want to instead opt for the 3.6-liter V6 engine, which churns out 321 horsepower.

"Cadillac designers paid close attention to the details in the ATS, and optional features like all-wheel drive and Magnetic Ride Control will definitely appeal to Massachusetts drivers that need a luxury car for all seasons," added DeLuca. "There are no compromises in the 2013 Cadillac ATS, which means drivers will fully experience the luxury that Cadillac is known for regardless of the trim they choose."
