BATAVIA, NY (04/30/2014)(readMedia)-- While the spring semester is winding down, College Village at Genesee Community College is gearing up for fall. With two new residence halls available in Fall 2014, the Village will be able to accommodate more students. But those interested are encouraged to apply now. "We are already over 60% occupied for fall," John Sisson, College Village director said.
College Village, located at 8170 Batavia-Stafford Townline Road, currently consists of nine student residential buildings located on 11.7 acres. In November 2013, ground was broken for two additional residence halls that will increase capacity by 64 students. "This will allow us to offer housing to 453 students," Sisson said. Last fall, The Village received 572 applications. "We have a waiting list every year, so we encourage students to get their applications in early to ensure they'll have a spot."
The College Village application form is available online at http://www.genesee.edu/campuslife/housing/.
The two new buildings will be similar to two others built in 2007. They're being constructed adjacent to the existing complex on a 4.7 acre parcel first utilized for the 2007 expansion. They will provide nearly 11,000 square feet of living space. Each unit is designed to house four students with single bedrooms and two bathrooms. There will also be a common space for studying, socializing and recreational use. The project cost is estimated at $2.8 million.
