CANTON, NY (01/16/2014)(readMedia)-- SUNY Canton's new executive chef will bring the best food the North Country has to offer to the campus' community table.

Steven W. Maiocco assumed his duties as assistant director of dining and executive chef in December. The guiding principle of his culinary approach is to serve fresh, local food.

"It's my job to ensure we're using the freshest ingredients whenever possible, with a focus on locally grown and produced foods," Maiocco added. "I am very excited to be working with dedicated members of the Dining Services team to continue the great work they do and to identify opportunities for us to improve our service to students, faculty and staff."

Susan D. Law, director of dining services, said Maiocco's duties entail overseeing food production across the entire campus, including catering services. He also will be responsible for training and overseeing food service team members.

"We are thrilled to welcome Steve to the SUNY Canton community," Law said. "His talent and experience will be an invaluable asset to our campus."

Maiocco is a 2004 graduate of Johnson & Wales University. Prior to joining SUNY Canton, he served as SUNY Potsdam's executive chef. He also previously worked for Blue Hills Country Club in Canton, Mass.

"Our dining services are a significant part of campus life," Maiocco said. "My commitment to the culinary arts, coupled with an outstanding team, will allow us to further enhance our students' experience."
