KUTZTOWN, PA (07/27/2017) A 100-room Hampton Inn and Suites is proposed to be built in Maxatawny Township just west of the borough of Kutztown on the current site of the Campus Inn. This is the first nationally-branded hotel in the immediate Kutztown area. Hampton Inn and Suites is part of the Hilton Hotels group. This new hotel will provide convenient and reasonably-priced accommodations for visitors to Kutztown University, Berks and Lehigh County business travelers and travelers visiting the Kutztown community to take advantage of the many regional events and attractions that this locale has to offer.
Developers are targeting the groundbreaking for the four-story, $13 million project in the spring of 2018, with the grand opening targeted for the spring of 2019. The project will bring construction and hotel jobs to the area and, when completed, will be a benefit to the Kutztown and local business community.
The venture will be led by Ursus Aureus and Golden Bear Ventures, subsidiaries of the Kutztown University Foundation (KUF).
"We are thrilled to bring a quality, nationally-branded hotel to the Kutztown area," said Scott Dorn, chairman and president of Ursus Aureus and Golden Bear Ventures. "This is all about economic development and is a long-term investment for everyone involved. We have an outstanding development team of multi-disciplined specialists assembled," Dorn said. "This will ensure the success of the project from the very beginning."
The hotel will be managed by TKo Hospitality Management of Wilmington, Del., and will include an indoor pool, fitness room, two small conference rooms, and will offer a continental breakfast. KCBA Architects of Hatfield, Pa. will serve as the architects for the project.
"We expect the new hotel to attract visitors to the university, the Kutztown Folk Festival, Kutztown Fair and local businesses, and the many attractions in the East Penn Valley," Dorn said. "While the hotel will be customized to fall in line with the superior Hilton/Hampton Inn and Suites model, we will add a local flare to the property."
