STAUNTON, VA (09/29/2010)(readMedia)-- Staunton Parks & Horticulture Fall Plant Giveaway is be held on Friday October 22 @ 4:30 PM. The Location is Gypsy Hill Park, at the far end of the large parking lot for the football stadium & Moxie field, near the entrance gates to Parks Maintenance Shop. Our hope is that the old plants will find new homes and start new lives in and around Staunton. Let's make Staunton beautiful together.

What will be available at the giveaway: A nice mix of tropical bulbs- Elephant ears (alocasia & colocasia type), Dahlias, Oxalis (purple & yellow), Gladiolus, Coleus, Begonias and a few others, some of which can be used as house plants. Also our fall garden mums will be up for grabs as well as a few perennials and miscellaneous leftovers.

How it works: We lay everything out and rope it off, people are welcome to arrive a few minutes early to look at what is available (look but not grab). At 4:30 sharp you grab what you want on a first come, first serve basis. This is open to anyone, not just city residents. Not everything in the city flower beds is available at the giveaway. We hold back a stock of certain plants & bulbs to propagate from to create a new generation of plants.
