ST. MARY'S CITY, MD (06/29/2011)(readMedia)-- Richard Platt, a North Newton native and currently an associate professor of psychology at St. Mary's College of Maryland, is back in his hometown and alma mater this summer to participate in Bethel College's 12th annual Summer Science Institute. Platt, a 1985 graduate of the college, is one of three alumni on a faculty dedicated to serving 32 high school students with an interest in math and science. He will be teaching a course focusing on understanding memory from a psychological perspective.
Platt, who earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Florida, has taught psychology at St. Mary's College for the past 18 years. This fall, he will step into a new role as associate dean of faculty.
St. Mary's College of Maryland, designated the Maryland state honors college in 1992, is ranked one of the best public liberal arts schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. More than 2,000 students attend the college, nestled on the St. Mary's River in Southern Maryland.
