New Washington Resident Rachel Beeson Awarded Presidential Scholarship at U of Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (06/15/2011)(readMedia)-- University of Toledo President Lloyd Jacobs announced today that Rachel Beeson, a senior at Buckeye Central High School in New Washington, Ohio, is a recipient of UT's Presidential Scholarship. She plans to major in bioengineering.

The scholarship – the most prestigious offered by the University – requires applicants have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.8 and at least a score of 30 on the ACT or 1340 on the SAT.

"We are honored Rachel has chosen to pursue her education at The University of Toledo," said UT President Lloyd Jacobs. "UT's College of Engineering is one of the best in the nation and it will only be enhanced by Rachel's scholastic contribution."

Rachel was also selected for admission into the joint BS/MD program between UT's College of Medicine and Life Sciences and Department of Bioengineering. Upon completion of her bioengineering degree, Rachel will have a seat reserved for her in the medical college's freshman class.

More than 150 students applied for one of four Presidential Scholarships awarded this year. Awardees received full tuition and general fees coverage as well as payment of room and board for four years. Additionally a $3,000 stipend is included for a summer experience such as an internship or studying abroad.
