ALTAMONT , NY (08/10/2013)(readMedia)-- Visitors to the Altamont Fair will be able to find out what it's like to change a tire as part of a NASCAR pit crew, test their marksmanship with a laser weapons simulator and test the strength of their punch by visiting the New York Army National Guard recruiting station at the fair.

The Army National Guard recruiters will also have a military vehicle on hand for visitors to examine and Guard members will be there to talk to the public about what citizen Soldiers do.

The NASCAR tire changing simulator allows visitors to pretend their changing tires on the race car driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. who drives the National Guard car on the NASCAR circuit. The punching bag machine allows visitors to test their strength against their friends, and the laser shot devices are used by Guard Soldiers to hone their marksmanship skills.

Reporters looking for a different angle on their fair coverage are invited to stop by the Army National Guard recruiting station to check k out the equipment and also talk to the Guard recruiters and visitors.

The New York Army National Guard, with a membership of about 10,500 Soldiers, is currently at 100 percent strength.

National Guard Recruiters, though, are continually seeking new Soldiers to fill job education opportunities available in units across the state. Throughout the summer months New York Army National Guard recruiters will be manning booths at county fairs to let the public and potential Soldiers know more about the force.
