New York National Guard Arrives Deploys to Impacted Flood Areas in the Mohawk Valley

LATHAM, NY (07/03/2013)(readMedia)-- New York National Guard Soldiers arrive today in Utica with additional forces to begin helping residents and businesses recover from the devastating floods throughout the Mohawk Valley region. Their arrival follows Governor Andrew M. Cuomo deployment yesterday of New York an additional 250 National Guard members and heavy equipment.

About 180 National Guard engineers and heavy equipment, along with an additional 50 military police Soldiers and vehicles, along with support elements, arrive for civil support operations at the following locations:

Location: Utica Armory, 1700 Parkway East Armory, Utica, NY 13501

Time: Units and their support elements are expected to close at the armory by 3 pm. Engineer forces will deploy and stage near their intended work sites (see below).

Visuals: National Guard members in uniform arriving with their humvees and support vehicles

Deployed to: Engineer equipment will support recovery efforts on Route 168 in Mohawk and Route 51 in Ilion. Engineers will conduct debris removal.

Military Police Soldiers and Humvees will assist local law enforcement with presence patrols:

Time: Throughout the day, determined by local authorities

50 New York Army National Guard Soldiers are already deployed across Herkimer County, utilizing high axle vehicles to support local first responders at the following fire stations with two Soldiers at each site:

Locations:

Little Falls: 659 East Main Street

Mohawk: 28 Columbia Street

Van Hornesville: 591 North Washington

Herkimer: 125 North Washington

Schuyler: 120 Newport Road

Ilion: 1 Central Avenue

Middleville: 41 North Main Street
