New York National Guard Logistics Soldiers Leave State to Prepare for Kuwait Deployment

LATHAM, NY (10/20/2012)(readMedia)-- Fifteen New York Army National Guard members left New York today to prepare for a deployment to Kuwait.

The Soldiers, who come from across the state will train at Fort Hood, Texas for 30 to 45 days before heading to Kuwait. Most are members of the New York City-based 369th Sustainment Brigade.

Their mission in Kuwait will be to support military logistics operations in that country.

There are currently more than 1,300 New York Army National Guard Soldiers deployed in Kuwait and other Persian Gulf Nations. Another 500 Soldiers, mostly from the 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion headquartered in Yonkers, are serving in Afghanistan.

The members of the Kuwait Logistics Support Element will spend 365 days on active duty. Following post-mobilization training at Fort Hood they will spend nine to 10 months in Kuwait before returning to demobilize and take earned leave.
