LATHAM, N.Y. (09/30/2013)(readMedia)-- New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. David Feeley, a veteran of the Iraq war, takes charge of the 1st Battalion 258th Field Artillery, an Army National Guard unit headquartered in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, on October 27.
Feeley was born in Plymouth, Mass. and has kept ties to New York State throughout his military career, including a brother who lives in Valley Cottage, N.Y.
Lt. Col. Feeley was commissioned into the Field Artillery in May, 1993. His previous assignments in the active component include Firing Platoon Leader and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer, 6-37 Field Artillery Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, Republic of Korea; Company Fire Support Officer, Firing Battery Executive Officer and Battalion Fire Direction Officer, 2-15 Field Artillery Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York; and Fire Control Officer, 3d Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Feeley joined the New York Army National Guard in 2000 and Commanded Battery B/1-156 Field Artillery Regiment, after serving as the Battalion Fire Support Officer for 1-105th Infantry Regiment (Light). Following the September 11, 2001, attacks he served as the Commander of the Security Detachment at La Guardia Airport and he deployed to Iraq in 2004 as the Battalion Fire Support Officer for Task Force 2-108 Infantry Regiment (Light). Upon returning from Iraq in 2005 he served in multiple positions in the Military Naval Operations and Training Directorate of the Joint Force Headquarters, New York, while simultaneously serving as the Battalion Operations Officer and then the Battalion Executive Officer for the 1st Battalion, 258 Field Artillery Regiment.
In 2009, he transitioned to the Army National Guard Directorate of the National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. During his Washington tour, he has served as the Assistant Executive Officer to the Director, Army National Guard, as the Programs and Resources Branch Chief, in the Army National Guard G-1 Personnel Programs, Manpower, and Readiness Division, responsible for the budgeting and execution of over 50% of the total budget authority of the Army National Guard, as well as the Chief, Officer Management Branch, Human Capital Management Division. Feeley most recently served in the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army, General Officer Management Office.
He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, the Field Artillery and Infantry Captains Career Courses, Intermediate Level Education and Advanced Operations Warfighter Course. He is a 1993 graduate of the State University of New York, College of Arts and Sciences at Geneseo, where he majored in History.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Combat Action Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
Feeley is married to Eileen (Bowden) Feeley; they have two children, James and Katherine.
