New York State Department of Transportation to Update Media on Lake Champlain Bridge Arch Lift Today at 11 a.m
ALBANY, NY (08/26/2011)(readMedia)-- New York State Department of Transportation officials will hold a media availability at 11 a.m. this morning at the Crown Point State Historic Site to provide an update on the lifting of the Lake Champlain Bridge center span arch. The event will be near the picnic area on the bluff overlooking the bridge, on the shore of Lake Champlain in Crown Point, Essex County, N.Y.

Under ideal weather conditions this morning, the arch left shore at 6 a.m., floating down Lake Champlain on two barges and pulled by a tugboat.
As of 10 a.m. today, the arch had been floated down the lake from Velez Marine in Port Henry to its final destination at the bridge construction site, between Crown Point, N.Y., and Chimney Point, Vt., and was on the verge of being lifted.
When ready, the lift is expected to last between four and eight hours, extending into the late afternoon or early evening today.
