SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (10/18/2011)(readMedia)-- The New York State Military Museum will host a performance of "Theater of War", sponsored by Empire State College, and featuring actor Jesse Eisenberg, the star of the movie "The Social Network" on October 24 at 7 p.m.

The performance is free and open to the public; however, due to limited seating at each performance advance registration is requested. Registration is available online at http://choose.esc.edu/tow/.

Also appearing in the production are actor John Doman, who has appeared in HBO's show "The Wire" and Glen Davis who has been featured on "24", "The Unit" and "Jericho" and Chinasa Ogbuagu, who has appeared on the shows "Nurse Jackie" and "Petunia"

Theater of War presents readings of Sophocles' Ajax and Philoctetes to military and civilian communities as a catalyst for town hall discussions about the impact of war on individuals, families and communities.

These ancient Greek plays timelessly and universally depict the psychological and physical wounds inflicted upon warriors by war. By presenting these plays to military and civilian audiences, the hope is to de-stigmatize psychological injury, increase awareness of post-deployment psychological health issues, disseminate information regarding available resources, and foster greater family, community and troop resilience.

Readings from the plays are followed by discussion with panelists from the local civilian and military communities, and a town hall style audience discussion. Each performance runs approximately two hours. The readings have been translated, directed and facilitated by Bryan Doerries and are produced by Phyllis Kaufman.

To date, Theater of War Productions has presented 175 performances for military and civilian communities throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.

This will be the second performance for the program that day. The group will appear at the New York State Museum in Albany at 12:30 p.m.

Over 35,000 service members, veterans and their families have attended and participated in Theater of War performances and discussions. The mission of the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center is to preserve, interpret and disseminate the story, history and records of New York State's military forces and veterans. The collection is divided into the museum and the library/archives holdings. The building, designed by Isaac Perry and constructed in 1889, is a fine example of armory architecture that was popular in upstate New York in the late 1800's.
