New York State Parks Presents Awards; Rensselaer County Area Resident Honored

ALBANY, NY (12/27/2007)(readMedia)-- New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash presented the agency’s annual achievement awards at a ceremony held at Saratoga Spa State Park earlier this month.

Among the awardees was Marc Talluto. Mr. Talluto was awarded the agency’s Special Achievement Award for his efforts as Director of Agency Safety.

“Marc’s persistence, dedication and strong drive to succeed have enabled him to move through the ranks of the agency in many different capacities. He is commended for his efforts to reinforce and enhance the role of regional safety officers and bring greater attention to the importance of safety,” Ash said.

Ash noted that with Mr. Talluto’s leadership, the Agency has conducted over 50 safety training sessions since September, assisting over 1,100 employees. He has also coordinated the placement of nearly 250 automatic external defibrillators throughout the agency and the training of over 1,000 employees in their use. In addition, Marc has played a key role in the implementation of the Statewide Wireless Network Project.

Ash added that Mr. Talluto has also contributed to statewide emergency management efforts. Just after September 11, Mr. Talluto was assigned a special duty on loan to the NYS Emergency Management Office for ten months to work on World Trade Center Recovery. In that assignment he was designated as the Deputy Recovery Coordinator for New York City as well as the State Liaison to the Port Authority of NY/NJ for the recovery process.

“Marc’s level of commitment and everyday excellence makes all our facilities and workplaces safer for employees and patrons,” Ash said.

Mr. Talluto’s 17-year career at State Parks began in 1992 when he was a seasonal employee at Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park in the Taconic Region. He was promoted in 1995 and became the region’s purchasing agent. In 1998, Mr. Talluto assumed responsibility as the Director of Health and Safety for the New York City and Taconic regions. Mr. Talluto assumed his current position as Director of Health, Safety and Emergency Management, based in the Albany office, in 2007.

Mr. Talluto lives in DeFreetsville, New York.
