TROY, NY (10/19/2010)(readMedia)-- The NYSRPA would like to offer our sincere apologies to Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito. We incorrectly stated that she voted in favor of A-6468, which would effectively prohibit the possession of all new handguns which do not use microstamping technology. We appreciciate her common sense in realizing that A-6468 (microstamping) was another piece of "feel good" legislation proposed by her Democratic Conference that would do nothing to solve the Gang and Drug related problems that are the root cause of inner city violence.
The sheer number of antigun bills in the legislature which Ms. Destito supported over the years make it sometimes difficult to track those bills where she voted to support her constituents rather than her Downstate Bosses. In the interests of fairness, Assemblywoman Destito did not vote in favor of A-6468. Instead, she voted in favor of A-6157 which effectively prohibits the possession of all – not just new – pistols and long guns which accept detachable magazines. She also voted in favor of A-2881, prohibiting the possession of common ammunition used for self-defense. She voted in favor of A-5844, effectively criminalizing keeping loaded firearms available in the home for self-defense. She voted in favor of A-1326, mandating firearms be made more difficult to use safely. She even voted in favor of A-2882, wasting more taxpayer monies on the failed ballistic database COBIS, which after over 9 years of operation, has accomplished absolutely nothing.
In this election year, it is important that the facts be known about Assemblywoman Destito's strong antigun voting record. We hope this clears up any confusion.
