ALBANY, NY (06/14/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association has the pleasure of awarding New York State Environmental Conservation Officer Jonathan Ryan its Officer of the Year award for 2012. Officer Ryan began competitions while in high school, shooting small bore rifle. After serving as a Patrolman in the Massena, NY Police Department, ECO Ryan was selected as an Environmental Conservation Officer Trainee in 1999. During the next year, 2000, Officer Ryan participated in the New York State Police Olympics as a member of the Environmental Conservation Police team. Since then, Officer Ryan has participated in IPSC and IDPA pistol competitions, and in Civilian Marksmanship Program high-power rifle competitions.
ECO Ryan is also trained as a Glock and AR/15 armorer.
Officer Ryan has been an instructor at DEC's Division of Law Enforcement at all DEC academies, and in the multi-agency David Sullivan Police Academy at SUNY Canton.
Officer Ryan has also been involved in Cub Scouting as a certified instructor teaching bb-guns and archery.
Officer Ryan enjoys hunting and fishing with his sons. Participation in hunter safety instruction, and in general interactions with the public, have brought home to him the value of portraying the shooting sports and our sporting traditions in a positive light. Officer Ryan takes every opportunity to properly educate and inform people about firearms and the people who utilize them.
These activities represent the core values NYSRPA celebrates in presenting these awards to NYS ENCON Officers every year, and NYSRPA is pleased to present Officer Jonathan Ryan with its 2012 Officer of the Year award.
