GENEVA, NY (10/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Talking with Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, after the Wine, Beer & Spirits Summit in Albany, New York Wine Industry Association (NYWIA) President Scott Osborn told the Governor, "It was a pleasure to see you take action on issues our industry has had concerns about for years! NYWIA looks forward to working with you and your team." Osborn owns Fox Run Vineyards near Geneva.

The Summit was designed to publically share ideas from the private sector of the industry with the Governor. Cuomo responded to concerns by announcing regulatory reform to enhance the business environment, funding for promotion of these agriculturally-based beverages, addressing trade issues and international marketing of New York State wine, beer, cider and spirits and increasing tourism to the farm enterprises.

"It was a wonderful feeling to have our government actually listen to us, the business owners of New York," said Susan Hayes, vice president of NYWIA and co-owner of Miles Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake. "It was unbelievable to hear specific answers to our concerns so quickly," added Ted Marks, a NYWIA board member and owner of Atwater Vineyards near Watkins Glen.

John Martini, a NYWIA board member and owner of Anthony Road Wine Company, near Geneva, was invited to address the Governor at the Summit. He pointed to the need for continued research for the beverage farmers for grapevines, apples, hops, and other New York crops used in making wine, beer, cider and spirits.

NYWIA addresses issues that affect the long-term sustainability and growth of the wine industry in New York. NYWIA members include families who own vineyards, wineries and farm suppliers.
