Steep Drop in Senate Grades in Preliminary Green Report Card

ALBANY, NY (09/03/2009)(readMedia)-- In a preliminary release of EPL/Environmental Advocates annual "Voters' Guide," the only scorecard that grades New York State lawmakers according to their votes on bills that could harm or benefit the state's air, land and water, EPL documented a significant drop in senators' scores. The preliminary scorecard reveals that many of the New York State Senate's long-time green leaders have fallen down on the job in 2009.

WHO:

For nearly 40 years, EPL/Environmental Advocates has documented the voting records of state legislators in New York's first-and-only environmental "Voters' Guide." EPL's David Gahl will highlight New York State Senate scores. Invited organizations include NYPIRG, NRDC and Citizens Campaign for the Environment, among others.
WHAT:

The New York State Senate currently has a failing grade in the 2009 "Voters' Guide," but voting for legislation that would protect New York's environment could improve scores while protecting the state's environmental health. Lawmakers still have time to vote "yes" on legislation to increase electronic waste recycling, reduce global warming pollution, and create green jobs.
