Nighttime Traffic Restrictions on Northeastern Extension Begin next Week
Lane closures in effect Monday to Friday on I-476 northbound from Mid-County to milepost A26.
KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (03/04/2011)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike advises motorists traveling northbound on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) between Mid-County and Lansdale to be prepared for the right lane to be closed overnight next week, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday-Thursday (March 7-10) and Friday (March 11) from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.
This work launches the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's $151 million project to replace and widen six miles of the Northeastern Extension roadway and replace six mainline bridges that cross over local roads and one railroad line.
The single-lane pattern is needed to set temporary concrete barriers along the right edge and re-stripe the roadway from milepost A20 to A26. The bi-directional work to install the concrete barrier will continue Monday-Friday nights for the next 4-5 weeks.
Additionally, the contractor will construct emergency pull-off areas for the first phase of the total reconstruction and widening of the Turnpike mainline between the Mid-County and Berks Road (milepost A26).
Motorists are urged to stay alert for stopped or slow traffic when approaching the work area between milepost A20-A26 and obey posted speed limits. Speed limits will be enforced and fines increased. The work is weather permitting and could be rescheduled.
Advanced notification of work activities impacting traffic will be provided via regional media, variable message signs, E-Bulletins and postings on the Turnpike website, www.paturnpike.com. Project-specific questions can be directed to a 24-hour project hotline at 1-877-855-2545.
