Niles West Graduate Mahir Mameledzija named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team

The junior soccer player at Lake Forest College is a Spanish and Chemistry Major

LAKE FOREST, IL (11/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Lake Forest College men's soccer player Mahir Mameledzija (Visoko, Bosnia-Herzegovina/Niles West) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District® Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. He will now appear on the Capitol One Academic All-America® ballot.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve player on a university or college team and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. CoSIDA members nominate student-athletes from their schools and vote for the winners at the district level.

Mameledzija, a junior Spanish and chemistry major, is one of three forwards to earn the Division III award in District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio). He entered the week leading the nation in points (58), points per game (3.22), goals (27), and goals per game (1.5). He helped lead the 14-3-1 Foresters to the 2012 Midwest Conference championship with a league record of 9-1-0. He set single-season conference records for goals and points and his career totals in both categories rank second in team history.

Mameledzija will now appear on the national ballot. The Capitol One Academic All-America® Team will be announced on Tuesday, November 27.
