Nissan's Quest and Frontier Lead Their Segments in Initial Quality Study

J.D. Power: Minivan and Pickup Are Least Problem-Prone Among Competitors

RAYNHAM, MASS. (07/03/2012)(readMedia)-- Whether you need a reliable ride to haul kids or cargo, Nissan has you covered according to a recent study by J.D. Power and Associates. The marketing information company's 2012 Initial Quality Study (IQS) featured the 2012 Nissan Quest and 2012 Nissan Frontier at the top of the Minivan and Midsize Pickup segments respectively, besting competition from the likes of Honda and Toyota.

More than 74,000 owners and lessees of 2012-model-year vehicles weighed in on J.D. Power's 2012 IQS, answering 228 questions related to the first 90 days with their new ride. Those responses were then used to identify specific issues with models that could be passed along to automakers for future product improvement. With the fewest problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) in their segments, the Nissan Quest was rated higher than the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, while the Frontier topped the Honda Ridgeline.

"Whether they are headed on vacation or to the jobsite, owners of the Nissan Quest and Frontier don't have time to be dealing with unexpected trouble," said Jason Ferreira, general sales manager of Mastria Nissan, a Raynham, MA Nissan dealer. "Nissan has a well-earned reputation for quality and innovation, which is why so many Massachusetts drivers rely on its vehicles every day."

Buyers of the 2012 Nissan Frontier can choose between a standard four-cylinder engine that returns up to 23 mpg on the highway or a 261-horsepower V6 that tows up to 6,500 pounds. Meanwhile, a Utili-track Channel System makes it easier for owners to organize and secure cargo in the Frontier's bed with four adjustable tie-down cleats that can be mounted on any of the five thoughtfully-located channels. For those that want to conquer any kind of terrain, Nissan's midsize pickup is also available with four-wheel drive, hill start assist and hill descent control.

Featuring second- and third-row seats that can fold forward and flat, the 2012 Nissan Quest allows owners to reconfigure the interior to suit a number of uses, whether they have a full load of kids or need to free up space for a new washer and dryer. The Nissan minivan can seat up to seven passengers or offer 119.8 cubic-feet of cargo room with the back seats folded flat. Even more space can be found in a cargo well behind the third row, which can be accessed through an available power liftgate that opens with a simple touch of a finger.

Nissan's dedication to making life easier extends beyond folding seats and cargo-management systems. The 2012 Quest is one of the first Nissan vehicles to feature the automaker's new Easy-Fill Tire Alert system. After the Quest's tire-pressure monitoring system informs the driver of an underinflated tire, the Easy-Fill Tire Alert technology acts as a guide during inflation, briefly sounding the horn when proper tire pressure has been achieved.

"When you've traveling with kids, the little conveniences built into the Nissan Quest can add up to make your time with them a lot simpler," Ferreira noted. "The one-touch power liftgate allows you to easily load cargo with a child in your arms, while the Easy-Fill Tire Alert takes the guesswork out of inflating your tires."
