SENATOBIA, MS (08/03/2017) Eight Northwest Mississippi Community College student recruiters participated in the Ninth Annual Community College APEX Leadership Summit July 23-25 at the University of Mississippi. Students from statewide community colleges participated in leadership training sessions throughout the weekend.

JaDarrius Hodges of Walls, Zach Farrow of Senatobia, Lloydarius Newson of Senatobia, Branden Holly of Southaven, Dakota Kelso of Senatobia, Zach Brown of Tunica, Kristen Roberson of Sarah and Teaira Wheatley of Crenshaw attended the summit with Abby Embrey, assistant director of Recruiting.

According to Embrey, the students participated in team-building exercises with other student leaders from community colleges all over the state. They learned leadership skills through an activity and a project.

Newson's team, "The McDoubles" won first place overall. Each member of the team received an orientation fee waiver ($115) and an application fee waiver ($50) if they choose to transfer to Ole Miss after community college.

"My favorite thing about Apex was what they taught us about leadership. It's important to put others before yourself. I also learned how to be more vocal when trying to lead others," Newson said.

"We look forward to attending APEX every year. It's the perfect jumpstart to our recruiting season. Our student recruiters gain so much from the conference and come back ready to be a leader for our institution," Embrey said.
