Nostalgic Noodles Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/13/2019) (readMedia)-- Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won first place and a $150 cash award in the Tribute To Bessie – Chicken and Noodles competition, judged Saturday, August 10, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Cheryl Rogers of Ankeny earned second place and $75. Geraldine Tait of Humeston claimed third place and $50

Entrants were challenged to create an award winning chicken and noodles dish reminiscent of the kind served throughout Iowa in the 1950's.

Entries were judged on taste, appearance, creativity and noodle quality.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
