Noted Ecologist to Speak at Paul Smith's College

PAUL SMITHS, NY (04/08/2014)(readMedia)-- A noted ecologist will round off this spring's Fisheries and Wildlife Seminar Series Friday, April 18, at Paul Smith's College.

Prof. Fran Sandmeier of Lindenwood University will speak at 10:10 a.m. in the Freer Auditorium. Her talk is titled "Wildlife Disease and Immunology in Mojave Desert Tortoises."

Sandmeier has made notable contributions to the conservation of the desert tortoise, a federally protected species under the Endangered Species Act. She holds a doctorate in ecology, evolution and conservation biology from the University of Nevada, Reno and a bachelor's in integrative biology from the University of California Berkeley.

Sandmeier's talk is free and open to the public.

For the past seven years, Paul Smith's College has hosted a different professional fisheries and wildlife biologist each month as part of the series, which is sponsored by the fisheries and wildlife science program.
