DANVILLE , IL (11/29/2012)(readMedia)-- A few Lakeview College of Nursing students have collected more than 1200 items for babies and children to provide for the Crisis Nursery in Urbana, IL.
Felix De Leon of Oak Forest, IL; Anita John of Philadelphia, PA; Nicole Cummings of Sacramento, CA; and Oladoyin Alli-Balogun of Chicago, IL, were motivated to help because of their love for children. "Children are very important to us. When given the opportunity to help these particular children we felt there was no better decision," explained De Leon.
The group of students began by asking those within their college community to help. They requested items such as gift cards, diapers and wipes, baby supplies, food and clothing. "The support for our project has been overwhelming," said De Leon.
Stephanie Record, Executive Director of Crisis Nursery, appreciates the support of such donations.
"Many people like to give tangible goods to the Nursery," said Record. "This is a perfect example of a group using their individual talents and passions to give back and help people in need. Some of these toys will be kept here at the Nursery for the children in our care to stay entertained. Others will be sent home with kids and families who need some holiday cheer this time of year."
Crisis Nursery creates an "Island of Safety" dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect by providing 24-hour emergency care for children and support to strengthen families in crisis.
