OPERATION SAFE STOP DAY
Press Events to Address Illegal Passing
ALBANY, NY (04/14/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York Association for Pupil Transportation will hold a press conference regarding illegal passing of school buses and how it relates to the safety of our school children:
DATE: April 18, 2012
TIME: 9:30 AM
LOCATION: Automobile Association of America (AAA) of the Hudson Valley
618 Delaware Avenue
Albany, NY 12209
SPECIAL GUEST: Commissioner of Motor Vehicles Barbara Fiala (invited)
This press conference will formally kick off OPERATION SAFE STOP Day in New York State. On this day each year (since 1993), school transportation officials collaborate with local law enforcement officials on intensifying attention to the problem of illegal passing. We estimate that more than 50,000 motorists will pass a stopped school bus illegally each day.
Our intent is to call attention to this problem and seek the cooperation of the public in reducing illegal passing. Local school officials, State Police and local police agencies will be on hand for this event.
