On Verge of Financial Reform Vote, Founding Fathers Crash Wall St.

NEW YORK, NY (07/13/2010)(readMedia)-- The nation's Founding Fathers, with support from Citizen Action of New York, Common Cause and Public Campaign, will appear at Federal Hall at 26 Wall Street on Thursday to protest the undue influence of Wall Street executives and corporate campaign cash on Congress. It's the second appearance by the Founding Fathers, who visited several Washington DC congressional fundraisers at the end of June.

The first episode can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUsEHDVYy_g.

The Founding Fathers' visit coincides with the signing of a new financial regulation bill poised to pass the Senate tomorrow that was heavily influenced by the millions of dollars spent on lobbying and campaign donations by corporations to buy access and influence to friendly lawmakers.

Wall Street interests spent billions in campaign contributions and on lobbying to maintain the status quo. Their influence led to lax regulation that allowed them to run our economy into the ground. The Campaign for Fair Elections and the Founding Fathers are pushing for Congress to pass the Fair Elections Now Act (H.R. 1826, S. 752), legislation that would make elected officials accountable only to their constituents, not corporate backers or lobbyists.
