Onondaga Redistricting: Restart and Do it Right

NEW YORK, NY (11/29/2021) (readMedia)-- In response to recent news that the Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon vetoed the county legislature's proposed new maps of legislative districts, Common Cause/NY Executive Director Susan Lerner issued the following statement:

"Common Cause/NY applauds Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon's decision to veto the Legislature's maps. Now, the entire redistricting process must restart again, and this time the Redistricting Commission needs to get it right. That means holding numerous open and conveniently scheduled public hearings; no more 3 week hack jobs under cover of darkness. Onondaga residents deserve a real process that centers them and the non-partisan goals of redistricting."
