This press conference is being held a day in advance of the designated OPERATION SAFE STOP Day (April 18th) in New York State. On this day each year (since 1993), school transportation officials collaborate with local law enforcement officials on intensifying attention to the problem of illegal passing. We estimate that more than 50,000 motorists will pass a stopped school bus illegally each day.

Our intent is to call attention to this problem and seek the cooperation of the public in reducing illegal passing. Local school, State Police and local police agencies will be on hand for this event.
