LA MIRADA, CA (10/15/2013)(readMedia)-- Just one day after wrapping up her second Golden State Athletic Conference defensive player of the week nod, Biola defender Morgan Aukshunas of Orange, Calif. was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics defensive player of the week.

Aukshunas is awarded the honor after she and her teammates held two GSAC foes scoreless, including then-No. 3 Westmont. The senior was heavily involved in keeping the score knotted at zero by picking up two team saves against the Warriors.

Earlier in the week she got involved in the Eagles' offensive attack by adding a goal and an assist in BU's 6-0 shutout over Arizona Christian.

The national player of the week is selected by the NAIA national office from a pool of conference and independent player of the week winners. Aukshunas was awarded the honor for her performance during the two games played between Oct. 7-13.

Aukshunas is the first BU athlete to be named a national player of the week since Aaron Fenlason won it in 2011.

Biola is off to a strong start to conference play, and earlier this season broke into the national top-25 rankings for the first time since 2006. They currently sit at 7-4-1 and have two road games this week, against San Diego Christian on Wednesday and Vanguard on Saturday.
