Osceola Cook Claims State Fair Jellies Title

DES MOINES, IA (08/12/2017) (readMedia)-- Tanya Hardy of Osceola won First Place Overall and the Reserve Sweepstakes award in the C&H Classic Iowa Canned Jellies competition, judged August 9, prior to the start of the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Oney Meryl Anne Johnson of Coralville earned Second and Third Place Overall.

Rod Zeitler of Iowa City claimed the Sweepstakes award.

Jellies are easy to make but hard to master. They're made with fruit and suger but unlike jams, marmalades, and preserves, a true jelly is translucent with no seeds or fruit in sight. Jelly is expected to hold its shape while still be easy to scoop out with a spoon.

Entries were judged on appearance, flavor and consistency.
