Over Five Thousand CWA and IBEW Members Expected at Tomorrow's Rally in Front of Verizon HQ

NEW YORK , NY (07/29/2011)(readMedia)-- Labor leaders, elected officials, community groups and over five thousand CWA and IBEW workers from across the East Coast will rally at Verizon's headquarters on Saturday to defend middle class jobs against corporate greed. The rally comes one week before the expiration of collective bargaining agreements covering 45,000 Verizon workers from Massachusetts to Virginia. Over 15,000 of these men and women work in the metropolitan NYC area. Despite making over $19 billion in profits over the last four years, Verizon's demands include a pension freeze, more off-shoring and contracting-out jobs, and gutting healthcare coverage: a frontal assault on middle-class jobs.
