PACES Dining Services Hosts Local Foods Dinner at SUNY Potsdam Sept. 20

POTSDAM, NY (09/15/2017) (readMedia)-- Potsdam Auxiliary College and Educational Services (PACES) Dining Services will showcase regional producers with an upcoming Local Foods Dinner at SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in Lehman Dining Center. This event is open to students and the campus community.

PACES has a long-standing history of supporting and working with local growers throughout the region.

The dinner at Lehman Dining Center will feature locally grown and produced products from a variety of area farmers and growers, including: Donahue Farms, Martin's Farm Stand, Moses Keim, Picken's Country Store, S & B Maple Products, Glazier Meats, Norfolk Bakery, Snell Orchards (Parishville), Three Bears Gluten-Free Bakery (Potsdam) and Fobare's Fruits.

The buffet-style dinner will be served from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Lehman Dining Center is located on Barrington Drive, adjacent to the SUNY Potsdam entrance via Pierrepont Avenue. Students may use their meal plan or guest passes, their flex ($10) or Bear Express balances to attend. Community members may use cash, credit or debit. The cash entry price is $12.50, plus tax.

PACES is a proud supporter of local businesses, seeking business collaborations with regional and NYS producers and suppliers. PACES purchases as much as feasibly possible from local vendors. Donahue Beef is a major supplier of beef to PACES, providing the campus with locally raised and processed, chemical- and hormone-free, grain-finished Angus beef.

In addition to working directly with local producers, PACES has direct access to a host of New York State producers and growers, through Renzi Foodservice of Watertown. PACES purchased more than $482,000 worth of New York State goods through Renzi Foodservice in 2016-17. Purchases supported 18 small businesses and 14 large businesses in the state. In addition, PACES purchased locally over $38,000 worth of products from Fobare's Fruits, Donahue Farms, Purple Rice, The Bagelry, Three Bears Bakery, Kaneb Orchards, Martin's Farms, S&B Maple Creations, Mose Keim and the Potsdam Consumer Cooperative last year.
