Paige Runge, Stephen Chamineak of St. Louis star in college musical
FULTON, MO (10/25/2011)(readMedia)-- Filled with comedy, music and fun, "The Drowsy Chaperone" was William Woods University's first main stage production of the year. With a cast of 19, the show was filled with diversity and entertainment.
The production is a show-within-a-show, featuring Janet, a showgirl who plans to give up her career to marry an oil tycoon. The plot incorporates mistaken identities, dream sequences, spit takes and many other laughter-inducing factors.
According to a review of the musical, "One of the characters I enjoyed most was Kitty, played by Paige Runge of St. Louis. Kitty is an actress who wants to be taken more seriously and replace Janet on stage. Unfortunately, Kitty is a typical ditzy showgirl who is not 'star material.' Runge does an excellent job portraying this role, and this has to be my favorite role I've seen her play."
The review continues, "Two gangsters, who have been hired to keep Janet from giving up the stage, were played by Drew Arnett of Columbia, Mo., and Stephen Chamineak of Hazelwood. Typical slap-stick comedy and bumbling funny-business was common with these two. Their disguises as pastry chefs and swimmers (complete with Roaring 20s swimsuits, flowered swim caps and floaties) were extraordinary."
