FULTON, MO (10/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Thirty-two years ago, Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin wowed movie audiences in the hit comedy, "9 to 5." Recently, the William Woods University Theatre reprised the popular show in musical form. Paige Runge and Drew Arnett starred.
Based on the 20th Century Fox Picture, written by Patricia Resnick, "9 to 5" opened in 2008 as a musical, with music and lyrics written by Parton.
It is a story of friendship and revenge set in the Rolodex era. The musical tells the story of three extremely improbable friends, Violet (played by Suzi Johnston of Fulton, Mo.), Judy (Bailey Campanini of Camdenton, and Doralee (Paige Runge of St. Louis, Mo.).
Treated terribly by their control freak boss, Mr. Hart (Drew Arnett of Columbia, Mo.), they set out to change some things in the company, like who's in charge.
This musical is a hilarious combination of crazy fantasies, day dreams and impulsive actions. When these three women get together and make plans, look out, because something crazy could be just around the corner.
"9 to 5" was directed by Joe Potter, assistant professor and artistic director of theatre at William Woods.
