Peak Leaders welcome new Skyhawks to campus

In August, almost 100 new Skyhawks were welcomed to campus through the Peak Experiences Summit the San Juans and Float the San Juan programs-wilderness-based pre-orientation programs. These 16 Peak Leaders led their new peers on backpacking and rafting trips while building community, introducing them to all things FLC, helping them connect to each other, and developing their sense of place and relationship with the region. For many participants, Peak was their first backpacking or rafting experience, and a few had never experienced the outdoors beyond their local park. These Peak leaders did an outstanding job creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for our new students while also demonstrating high-caliber risk management, decision-making, coaching, and leadership.
