Peter Howard Commissioned at Hampden-Sydney College Graduation

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/15/2013)(readMedia)-- Peter Van Alstyne Howard, Class of 2013, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army on May 12th during commencement ceremonies marking the end of the 238th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College. Howard was commissioned by Lieutenant Colonel Mark Thomson, Professor of Military Science at the University of Richmond. Pinning his gold bars were his grandfather, Frank Moran, and his mother, Christine Moran of Henrico.

Howard graduated with a B.A. in foreign affairs. While at Hampden-Sydney he was a member of the ROTC program through the University of Richmond. He was also a member of the Student Court, the Pre-Law Society, the Hampden-Sydney Volunteer Fire Department, the Society of '91 (leadership program), and the Tiger Athletic Club.

Lt. Howard will report to the Leader Training Course (LTC) at Ft. Knox, Kentucky in early June. There he will serve as a trainer for new ROTC cadets. Following the completion of LTC in July, he will report to Ft. Sill, OK, to attend the Field Artillery Basic Officer Leader Course.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
