The Phlebotomy Micro-credential requires only one course, PHB 101 and can be taken in either the spring or fall semester. This course is designed to provide knowledge in all aspects of both adult and pediatric phlebotomy required to become a Phlebotomy technician. Training in infection control, legal issues, proper equipment use, standard protocols for specimen collection and reporting skills are all included in our course.
Other skills include:
Identifying venous and capillary anatomy used for specimen collection
Identify cardiovascular anatomy and pathophysiology of the system
Identifying laboratory quality and safety guidelines standard to the field
Demonstrate collection methods of blood samples including capillary and venipuncture.
Demonstrating proper collection protocols for non-blood specimens
In addition, students will learn how to prepare their patients for blood draws who may be anxious or have a fear of needles.
