Phoenix House NY to Help NYers Living With Mental Health Challenges Prepare for Holidays

Ahead of the annual holiday surge in mental health and substance use-related incidents, 20 members of Phoenix House's new Harlem Clubhouse will present a holiday wellness kit with coping strategies for New Yorkers navigating serious mental health challenges, and connect local residents to available services

NEW YORK, NY (12/18/2025) (readMedia)-- On Friday, December 19, Phoenix House of New York & Long Island will host an event supporting New Yorkers navigating serious mental health challenges amid the holiday season. Members from the Harlem Clubhouse will present a holiday wellness kit with coping strategies, including DIY sensory tools like "sensory bottles," to assist individuals with emotional regulation. Afterwards press is welcome to do a walking tour of the Clubhouse.

Driven by a membership model, the Harlem Clubhouse provides free, peer-led mental health support to adults ages 18 and living with a serious mental illness (SMI). Harlemites will have the opportunity to connect with Clubhouse members and leadership, and learn about programming and treatment services available at the Clubhouse.

Research confirms that the holiday season routinely presents unique challenges for mental health and substance use. According to a study from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 64% of individuals living with a mental illness report that their conditions worsen around the holidays.
