WHAT: Collection Drive for prosthetics, crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs to support the work of Physicians for Peace in Haiti providing care for the injured and disabled.

WHY: Since 2005, internationally recognized Physicians for Peace (PFP) has been providing amputee rehabilitation services in Haiti. The number of injured and disabled in Haiti has risen dramatically (and will continue to rise) because of the earthquake. At the same time, much of the resources that had been established to treat the disabled in Haiti have been destroyed. Heather Mills is speaking out to help Physicians for Peace and Hanger Orthopedic Group to collect prosthetics, crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs then refurbishing them as necessary. Through Physicians for Peace's partner network of Healing Hands for Haiti and St. Vincent's School for Handicapped Children (and others), both in the capital city of Port au Prince, prosthetic donations will go directly to longer term assistance for the countless tens of thousands who are disabled as a result of trauma and amputations. This drive is part of PFP's "Walking Free" program, recognized around the world for providing prosthetics and other devices as well as training to prosthetists and physical therapists to help amputees live fully productive lives.
