Physicians for Peace Commemorates 20th Anniversary with its Celebrate the Nations 2009 Gala Reception

Physicians for Peace, headquartered in Norfolk, Va.

Physicians for Peace staff, Board of Trustees, volunteers, donors and special guests will commemorate the organization’s 20th Anniversary at its annual Celebrate the Nations Gala Reception. This celebration with Honorary Host Committee Harvey Lindsay, Jeffrey McWaters and Hugh Patterson and guests will include health care professionals, business and civic leaders, and medical volunteers from Hampton Roads and across the nation.

The Physicians for Peace 2009 Charles E. Horton, Sr. Humanitarian Award for Global Health will be presented to this year’s recipient, ONE. Co-founded by Bono and other campaigners, ONE is a grassroots organization backed by more than 2 million people committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease. The award will be accepted by Sheila Nix, the organization’s U.S. Executive Director.

Physicians for Peace will also present its 2009 Medical Diplomat Award - Volunteers of the Year to John Knight, M.P.H. of Porstmouth, Va.; Gilberto Mejia, C.P. of Richmond, Va.; and Christopher Walters, D.P.M. of Fairfax, Va.
