NORFOLK, VA (04/21/2009)(readMedia)-- Physicians for Peace, an international organization focusing on medical education in developing nations, has earned the highest possible ratings for its financial management and stewardship by the nation's top charity watchdogs.
This year marks the fifth consecutive four-star rating awarded to Physicians for Peace by Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities. According to Ken Berger, Charity Navigator President and CEO, fewer than 200 charities nationwide rated by Charity Navigator have attained 5 consecutive four star ratings, awarded for "financial management and fiscal responsibility." The rating places Physicians for Peace in the top 4 percent of all U.S. charities in terms of financial stewardship.
"To receive this recognition from Charity Navigator for the 5th time is a remarkable achievement," said Buzz Heidt, Physicians for Peace Board of Trustees Chairman. "Our relationship with our donors is critical, and this recognition is evidence that our donors' funds go directly to support our missions and save lives in the world's neediest regions."
"Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that your organization excels, as compared to other charities in America," noted Farhana Arastu of Charity Navigator. "You have successfully managed the finances of your organization in an efficient and effective manner. This consistency in your rating is an exceptional feat, especially given the economic challenges many charities have had to face in the last year."
In addition to the Charity Navigator recognition, Physicians for Peace has also received recognition from the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. Every two years, the Bureau conducts a qualitative analysis of the management policies, procedures and processes of non-profits nationally, looking at a set of 20 highly rigorous governance and management standards as well as fiscal stewardship. Physicians for Peace has again met all 20 standards and will be so recognized by the Better Business Bureau in their published reports.
"To receive both of these ratings at the same time is an incredible testament to the fiscal responsibility of the staff and the financial stewardship of our board of trustees," commented Physicians for Peace CEO Brig. Gen, Ron Sconyers (USAF, Ret.). "People can donate to Physicians for Peace with the knowledge that their funds will directly improve the lives of tens of thousands of people around the globe."
