NORFOLK, VA (06/21/2011)(readMedia)-- A multinational burn care team works together to save the life of a three-year-old. A surgical team from the U.S. and Morocco collaborates to perform landmark heart surgery. In Haiti, an aspiring engineer and earthquake survivor is fitted for his first prosthetic leg. And in Nicaragua, an orphan trades life on the streets for a university-level dental assistant program.

These are just some of the stories that readers will find in the 2010 Physicians for Peace Annual Report, now available online and in print. The report, a testament to the capacity-building effect of healthcare education in underserved areas, records a year's worth of success stories, made possible through the generous support of Physicians for Peace volunteers, donors and supporters, said Brig. Gen. Ron Sconyers (USAF, Ret.), the organization's president and CEO.

"Because of the dedication of our supporters and volunteers, here in the U.S. and abroad, Physicians for Peace is stronger, more agile and better positioned to respond to our partners' healthcare needs today than we have been at any other point in our 21-year history," Sconyers said. "That's a milestone worth celebrating."

The report also casts an eye forward to 2011, and beyond, detailing ongoing initiatives with longtime and new partners. Read the entire 2010 Annual Report online. For a printed copy, please contact Physicians for Peace at (757) 625-7569; info@physiciansforpeace.org.
