The guest artist series concert will be offered on Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Sara M. Snell Music Theater.

In addition, Jalbert will lead a masterclass with Crane piano students, on Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to noon, also in Snell Theater.

These events are free, and the public is invited to attend.

"Crane is very fortunate to host an artist of David Jalbert's caliber. A live performance of the 'Goldberg Variations' is a rare and thrilling experience, especially in the hands of someone as gifted as David," Crane School of Music Assistant Professor of Piano François Germain.

About the performer:

Pianist David Jalbert, with his spirited and communicative style, incomparable stage presence and refined ear, has made himself one of the flag-bearers of the new generation. The Toronto Star said Jalbert "dazzles with skill, style and taste... with all the finesse and exuberance a listener could want." Jalbert performs regularly as a soloist and recitalist across North America and Europe. His first solo album, a recording of American piano music by composers John Corigliano and Frederic Rzewski, won wide critical acclaim. It was followed in 2006 by a recording of Gabriel Fauré's "Nocturnes," and in 2008 by the Juno Award-nominated "Shostakovich: 24 Preludes and Fugues, Opus 87" for the ATMA label. He also released an album of works by minimalist greats John Adams and Philip Glass, before his most recent project, an acclaimed recording of Bach's "Goldberg Variations." An accomplished chamber musician, he is a member of Triple Forte (along with violinist Jasper Wood and cellist Yegor Dyachkov), and has several recordings of chamber music to his name, most notably with cellist Denise Djokic, French hornist Louis-Philippe Marsolais and the wind quintet Pentaèdre. A national and international prizewinner, Jalbert has won two Opus Awards (from the Conseil Québécois de la Musique) and was the 2007 laureate of the prestigious Virginia Parker Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts. He has studied at the Juilliard School, the Glenn Gould School, the Université de Montréal, and the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec. He is now a professor of piano at the University of Ottawa.
