MANCHESTER, NH (01/12/2012)(readMedia)-- John G. and Lucille R. Horton, of Pittsfield, were recently honored by the Alumni Council at Saint Anselm College. They received the Parents Award for their extraordinary sacrifices so their children could receive a liberal arts education at Saint Anselm College.

In nearly six decades of marriage, John and Lucille have raised six children and put them all through college, four of them through Saint Anselm. John worked as an electrician and taught night school to pay the tuition, and Lucille worked as a private duty nurse. Their children have gone on to diverse careers, in health care, agriculture, higher education, and hospitality. Now a second generation is attending Saint Anselm. The Hortons are the grandparents of five graduates and current students.

Saint Anselm College is a liberal arts college in the Catholic, Benedictine tradition, which prepares nearly 2,000 undergraduates for graduate school and careers on a 400-acre campus outside Manchester, N.H.
