ALBANY, NY (12/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Karl Thielking, principal of Pittsford-Mendon High School in the Pittsford Central School District, has been inducted as president of the School Administrators Association of New York State. Thielking succeeds Nadine Jackson-Ivey, principal of Clinton Elementary School in Poughkeepsie and will hold a one-year term.
Thielking has been principal of Pittsford-Mendon High School since July 2000. Between Williamson and Fairport high schools he spent 19 years in the classroom teaching physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth science, mathematics, and computer science. He coached various sports over 17 years including boys and girls volleyball, track and field, and wrestling. Thielking's career in administration began in Greece Central Schools where he served as an assistant principal for two years and then as principal of Greece Athena High School for two years.
Thielking obtained his bachelor's degree in general science at the University of Rochester where he majored in physics and mathematics. He holds his masters degree in science curriculum from the University of Rochester, as well as a certificate of advanced study in educational administration from SUNY Brockport.
Thielking previously has served as the president of the Monroe County Principals Association. He has also been a member of the board of directors of SAANYS since October 2002 and has sat on the association's executive committee since October 2009. His hobbies include camping, canoeing, fishing, hiking, and beach combing. He has been a Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Leadership Training Board of The Sigma Chi International Fraternity.
