AURORA, IL (07/18/2013)(readMedia)-- The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2012-13 season. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. The NABC honored more than 700 student-athletes from over 285 colleges/universities.

Aurora University senior Joel Iventosch (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central H.S.) was selected to the team for his success in the classroom. Iventosch graduated in May with a degree in business and computer science.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:

1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.

2. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the conclusion of the 2012-13 academic year.

3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

4. Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution.

In his senior season on the court, Iventosch, a captain for the Spartans, helped lead AU to a 22-7 record, while averaging 2.3 points and shooting 40.0 percent (14-of-35) from three-point range. AU made their ninth overall NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1997-1998 season and their sixth in nine seasons. The appearance is also the Spartans fifth as a member of the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC). AU defeated top-seeded Lakeland College 95-71 in the 2012-2013 NAC tournament championship game to capture the NAC tournament title.
